Evacuation has different meanings according to the vulnerability of the premises concerned. In highly combustible buildings, evacuation may mean a complete evacuation of the whole premises on discovery of the fire. In cases where fire resistant construction has been employed correctly, it is quite often the case that the section involved in a fire is evacuated and all other personnel remain within their own sections without evacuating at all.

There are a number of emergency situations which might require evacuation of a building:

Building2

Fire or smoke

Explosion or Leakage of dangerous gases or fumes

Sabotage or bomb threat

Aircraft collision

Earthquake

Structural failure

The emergency procedures are based upon fire, and only slight variations would apply in any of the other conditions.
